Butler University's Holcomb Observatory will help you see the natural world 'out there'

With the over-night sky full of Orionid meteor shower sparks, interest in what’s happening the rest of the year will fuel more outdoor night-sky tours.

Butler University’s Holcomb Observatory and Planetarium is open to the public many Friday and Saturday evenings.

The planet Saturn’s weather, many moons, and its ring system are featured in the current program at Holcomb.

Weekend public tours dates are:
- November 7, 13, 14
- December 4, 5, 11, 12

Planetarium doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the planetarium show begins at 8 p.m. Telescope viewing is from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. Private tours can be arranged by calling 317-940-8333.

At the end of the Saturn portion of the program the dome of the planetarium shows a tour of the night time sky pointing out stars, constellations, and planets currently visible in our Indiana skies.

Saturn is uniquely aligned with Earth right now with its rings appearing nearly edge-on. This alignment
occurs every 14 years.

Planetarium presentation costs $3 for adults, $2 for children, students and seniors, and $7 for families of five or less.

Holcomb Observatory and Planetarium is located on the north end of the Butler University campus and can be reached by heading west on 46th Street from Meridian Street.
