Indianapolis (IN) - After losing a heartbreaking over-time opener at Evansville on Saturday, Butler returned to the friendly confines of Hinkle Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs (1-1) responded well, with a 57-46 victory over Chattanooga (0-2).

Junior Andrew Smith and Sophomore Chrishawn Hopkins led the Bulldogs once again. Smith was dominant over 33 minutes of action. He was never in foul trouble, like in the opener versus Evansville, and recorded his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Hopkins, who led Butler with 22 points on Saturday, chipped in 12 points, but was just 4-of-17 from the floor. He did connect on 3-of-10 from beyond the arc.

The Bulldogs led for much of the first half before Chattanooga tied the game at 26-26 with two minutes left.

Butler struggled to take control in the first half leading just 28-27 at the break.

In the second half Butler's defense became dominant. The Bulldogs held the Mocs without a fieldgoal for extended periods of the 2nd half and used a 12-5 run to close the game.

Khyle Marshall and Ronald Nored each added eight points for the Bulldogs.

Chattanooga lost its second consecutive game in Indiana. The Mocs lost to Indiana 78-53 on Sunday night.

Butler unveiled its second NCAA Runner-Up banner at Hinkle Fieldhouse prior to the game. The banner included the Final Four logo from last season in Houston, as well as their record and Horizon League Champions.

Chase Stigall continued to struggle from beyond the arc shooting just 1-of-7, but did have five of the 12 points during Butler's decisive run.

Ricky Taylor led Chattanooga with 13 points off the bench.

Butler returns to the floor Saturday night when the #7 Louisville Cardinals travel to Hinkle Fieldhouse. The game will be on ESPN3.com at 2 PM EST.
