By now, all of the amens have been said, the plates have been washed and put away, the second football game is on, and Uncle Joe is sleeping in your recliner.
Today I spent two hours on a hobby, one hour cooking, 30 minutes cleaning, one hour driving, and some smattering of minutes watching television. I spent another hour around the dining table having Thanksgiving dinner with my family.
There are others who have spent countless minutes scouring the Black Friday circulars in the newspaper and planning their early morning outing to find the best deals. Some are traveling visiting friends and relatives who live out-of-town, and have faced long drives or lines at the airport.
How much time, in all of the fuss and commotion of the day, have I spent thanking God for His countless blessings? A minute? Two? And how about on a "normal", no special holiday type of day?
I don't know about you, but I can sure use some more alone time with God, and I am going to make certain I spend quality time in grateful prayer every morning as soon as I turn off my alarm clock.
If you want to join me, start by reading all five verses of Psalm 100.
Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
Happy Thanksgiving!
