The Annual Blue Claws 5K and One Mile Races were held on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at First Energy Park in Lakewood, N.J.
The weather was on the chilly side with temperatures in the 40’s at the start and a little windy. But the sun was shining bright and the several hundred participants enjoyed the trek through the park. After running through the park runners entered the stadium near the right field pole and made their way around the warning track for a finish near home plate. Several Blue Claws players were warming up for the afternoon game while the runners were finishing.
The event was sponsored by Saint Barnabas Health Center which had several tables set up distributing useful health related information to the runners.
The race was organized by the Ocean Running Club. Patty Hancock of the club was he Race Director.
Buster the Blue Claws mascot could be found on the starting line of both events and then made his way to the finish line where he greeted the runners as they finishes.
Coming in first for the men was Craig Segal of Highlands, N.J. and Runners High of Freehold in a time of 15:22. He was followed by Tim Murphy of Morristown in a time of 17:16 and then John Welsh of Millburn in 17:30.
On the women’s side it was Amy Bernstein of East Windsor breaking the tape in 19:50 followed by Francesca Jacobs of Toms River in 20:25 and then Katherine Chinery of Whiting in 20:39.
After the race awards were presented to top finishers and age group winners.
