Social media has the ability to be very overwhelming at times. Not only are there changes within the platforms that you use on a daily basis, but you start to hear a buzz about another social media sharing website all the time. For many people that use social media for business marketing, there is a lot to look out for. However just because there is a lot of buzz around a particular sharing site, doesn’t mean you have to invest a ton of your time on it.
For example, if your customers or potential customers are not active on Twitter, than it wouldn’t make sense to spend so much time investing in a campaign for Twitter. You could still find good use for it to shoot out some quick information, though. Even if you don’t reach a direct customer on Twitter, surely there is someone on there that is interested in your industry, at the very least. You may never find a good ROI if you spend too much time in an area where your target market can’t be found.
You might ask, “Just what should I do if I don’t want to spend too much time on Twitter?” Well one thing that you can do is to watch and listen to what is being said about your product or service. Find out what people think about your brand. You may get some honest criticism that can help you become better in the near future. When you do get that criticism, it’s always a good idea to respond. If you get praise, you can use the retweet feature, but always respond with a simple, “thank you”, or “glad you enjoyed”. You could even take it a step further and send a direct message to that follower.
You may also want to use Twitter to post some good information, even if it doesn’t come straight from your website. You might be thinking that you’re essentially just helping a competitor by providing a link to useful news they provide. Let's be honest, people know they can simply look up info by doing a Google search. How kind of you to provide information that a user can really use! It just shows that you are more than a business that looks at customers as numbers. It shows that you are actually a business that cares about its consumers. By doing this, you have just planted a seed. Now a person that is looking for valuable tips on your service knows they can go to you for this. Keep it up and you will soon turn into the authority of your niche.
