Who knew that smoke and heels wasn’t just for slinky bars, dark alleys, or gentlemen’s clubs? Well, two ladies from Brooklyn did. With many teams collaborating in creating professional networking events, JJezelle Thomas and Angela Victoria Hunte ventured into another spin that predominantly has been associated with men- cigars.
In finding the most quaint and charming spot that could be missed if you turned your head, professional Brooklyn women, JJezelle and Angela hosted their second Cigars and Stilettos event at Diamante’s Cigar Lounge on a small block within the hip area of Fort Greene Brooklyn. Not to be confused with the national Cigars and Stilettos event that includes the presence of men- this event is strictly purposed for a night of empowerment for female entrepreneurs.
Event co-host JJezelle Thomas went to her good friend of 10 years for support and as any good friend, Angela backed JJezelle. Through the support of her boutique creative service agency, Angela acquired brand sponsors and garnered interest among female entrepreneurs within the New York City area.
Guests were greeted by the heeled hosts and given programs outlining the evening’s order of events. With much to offer, the small spot overflowed with excitement of new people and new experiences. Women attending could enjoy a massage provided by Keisha Booker of Herbal Mermaid, receive cigar education from Diamante’s budding cigar aficionado Jade, have a cocktail, eat, smoke a cigar, mingle and be merry.
The tongues palate was treated with adult beverages provided by Exclusiv Vodka and a wonderfully prepared spread by Feisty Flavors Catering of spinach quiche, spicy buffalo chicken pastry bites and slices of a sough dough bread topped with hummus and roasted tomato and completed with the sweetest cupcakes on earth baked by Bites Galore.
All of the women participated in an introduction of themselves to the group. In less than two minutes given to each woman, it was evident that women in New York are about their business and wear many hats. Not only were some of the women entrepreneurs- they also held executive and administrative positions within the City of New York. Mirroring true to “multiple streams of income,” most women attending had more than one focus for generating income. From teachers by day to bloggers and creative consultants by night, the women represented brought intrigue to the networking event.
Guests were then presented by featured successful entrepreneurs currently running businesses within the New York area. Featured business women included: Obina the Esthetician of Labelle Boutique, Keisha Britton of Associates in Health (Health and wellness), Charlene Roberts of Bedroom Kandi, Sophia Sylvester- owner of Brooklyn Flavors Boutique and Shawnae Corbett of Loyal Style Boutique.
Guests were able to ask the featured professionals questions and opinions about their business and their experience in being an entrepreneur.
ANCC Board Certified Adult & Gerontology Nurse Practitioner, Keisha Britton was asked about clients experience in BOTOX and lip injections. With all honesty she said, “The first time is very painful,” and continued to explain the benefits to BOTOX including elimination of sweat.
Not so shy featured entrepreneur- Charlene Roberts, a consultant for award winning recording artist Kandi Burruss’ adult intimate product line, Bedroom Kandi, began her presentation with “I love sex. I like to talk about sex. So don’t get it twisted.”
From the benefits of waxing, to body soufflé ingredients, the speakers not only educated but entertained through their sharing of real life experiences.
Upon leaving, guests were encouraged to take the Jones, Hype Hair and UPTOWN magazines that were strategically placed throughout the venue.
Not leaving with the scent of cigars stuck in your clothing or hair, the women left with new connections stuck in their heads and new contacts in their phones. This Cigars and Stilettos event for women empowerment is one that New York women will consistently be drawn to and can benefit from.
