Business startup story: It all starts with the brand with Ladies Who Brand

For the inaugural weekly startup business series -- I'd like to share the Ladies Who Brand story:

As always, it starts with the brand. The brand is your core essence, your uniqueness…. you. Everything else builds from this. If the foundation is not strong, the structure will not hold. I see a lot of inconsistency, promises not delivered, blogs deserted, great ideas with no follow up and scattered activities causing a disconnect. As a result, many people/businesses are experiencing short term success that will not last. Your communication or non-communication is always a reflection of you and your brand. Therefore we should focus on quality with consistency, not quantity.

In our first three months, Ladies Who Brand, Inc., hosted three successful Power up! Seminars with high caliber speakers and excellent participant feedback. Our Power up! brand experience delivered on our promise that branding, understanding and planning the keys to Social Media success. The Power up! vision is grand and people are very excited about being a part of the Power up! Team to help achieve the vision, which in turn got us excited and gained momentum.

As with any startup business, we were being pushed into Social Media promotion, but since our brand was not completely formed, I resisted and did not launch into Social Media right away. Then came the question of our target market: I had two meetings with consultants questioning whether we would like to cater to the big business with a budget or the solo business owner without a big budget. Isn’t the latter the definition of a startup? True, you do get what you pay for, but my belief is that with a solid brand, Social Media understanding, along with a plan; anyone can achieve successful big company results. Start with the brand, start small and think big.

During the second meeting, my aha moment happened: my heart is with the solo business entrepreneur who needs to take control of the brand before others steer it to meet their agenda or vision. This is why it always starts with the brand. If you use your brand as a filter, then you can easily make decisions and know when that right opportunity presents itself. There are no second chances to make that great first impression to capture your target market.

Please don't ever forget your brand and that you are always communicating your brand.
