Burt Reynolds in intensive care due to flu

According to CNN actor Burt Reynolds was hospitalized today in a Florida hospital with the flu, and is reportedly in the intensive care unit.

The 76 year-old Reynolds arrived at an undisclosed hospital dehydrated and was later transferred to the intensive care unit, Reynolds' manager, Erik Kritzer, told CNN.

"He is doing better at this time," Kritzer was quoted as saying on Friday afternoon. "We expect, as soon as he gets more fluids, he will be back in a regular room."

Best known for his role in “Smokey and the Bandit,” he starred in other great films including "Deliverance" and "The Longest Yard."

Reynolds also starred in the television series “Evening Shade,” winning him an Emmy Award in 1991, and dominated the People Choice awards in the early 1980’s.

Reynolds has been in numerous relationships, with his marriage to actor Loni Anderson being his most controversial and most watched, with him accusing her of adultery, of being a spendthrift and a rotten mother. In 1997 Loni Anderson fired back in her book “My Life in High Heels.”

In 2010 Reynolds underwent heart bypass surgery.
