Burner wins DFA endorsement

1st CD Democratic candidate Darcy Burner today received the endorsement of Democracy for America (DFA), the national Progressive organization founded by 2004 presidential candidate and former DNC Chair, Howard Dean and now headed up by Dean’s brother, Jim. Burner is one of 5 Progressive candidates endorsed by the organization today.

The first five progressive champions endorsed by Democracy for America are:

·         Ilya Sheyman - IL-10

·         Joe Miklosi - CO-06

·         Eric Griego - NM-01

·         Mary Jo Kilroy - OH-03, and

·         Darcy Burner - WA-01

“This is a critical year to win back the House and we are getting started on a great note with some real progressive champions who will be fighters and truth-tellers in Congress,” said Jim Dean, Chair of DFA.

The endorsement is awarded on the basis of votes received by DFA members from around the country and an evaluation of the campaign mechanics (ie. Infrastructure, fund-raising capacity, campaign experience, platform, etc.) of the candidate. With over 1 million members nationwide (and a significant number in the region), DFA is one of the largest Progressive organizations in the country and their endorsement sends a clear message to the base of the Democratic Party. It also opens the potential of a significant boost in campaign dollars from a very large base of individual donors as well as access to the volunteer resources of the organization.

While the immediate impact of this endorsement on the typical 1st CD voter will probably be insignificant, the rallying call to Progressives in and around the district is loud and clear. Time will tell if they head the call.
