Want a proven formula for burning 300 calories more per day? Grab your walking shoes and a pedometer. That's all it takes, say a group of Stanford scientists who analyzed more than 25 different studies on the surprisingly powerful power of pedometers for weight loss.
On average, say the researchers, people who wear pedometers walk an extra mile daily, motivated by those little step calculators zooming upwards as the scale dips downward.
In the Stanford study, participants walked 27 percent more while losing weight and improving their blood pressure. So what does it take to see real results? Another study showed that 10,000 steps is the magic number, which results in about 300 calories more burned per day, depending on your height, weight and body build.
