Not even robots will need oil, though there’s some virtual oil at the door just in case, but one of the hottest places for avatars and virtual robots at Burn 2, Burning Man in Second Life, is the dance floor in Nish Mip’s Burn 2 build, Robot Summer City.
Robot Summer City is one of the more elaborate builds at Burn 2, and the first floor is so fascinating that it wasn’t until this writer’s third visit that he discovered the dance floor up on the third floor. It was jammed. This picture shows the dance floor; there are more pictures in the slide show next to this column.
As you enter, you hear the chatter of robot bartenders at the downstairs bar. Around you, human shaped robots tread a perpetual walk while other robots dart around in the air and one serves as bartender. The whole thing is a mass of red and black and constant motion.
While you’re on the first level, be sure to get the robot-related freebies that Nish Mip is offering there, then TP up to the dance floor, where a robot DJ spins tunes and avatars dance. You don’t want to miss it. Second Life members can teleport to Robot Summer City by clicking slurl.com/secondlife/Burning%20Man-Black%20Rock/204/50/25. If you prefer to teleport directly to the dance floor, click slurl.com/secondlife/Burning%20Man-Black%20Rock/204/55/35.
Burn 2 ends tomorrow. The builds will remain in place a while longer, but be sure to visit this weekend while performers and DJs are there.
