Burn 2 is just six weeks away! Formerly known as Burning Life, the event is a regional event of Nevada's Burning Man festival but held in Second Life. If you want to participate as a performer, artist, or volunteer, now is the time to start planning. This year Burning man will be August 30 through September 6 and Burn 2 will be October 14 through 24.

Burn 2 will be smaller than Burning Life was, at least initially. Without the Linden Lab funding that made Burning Life such an extravagant success, Burn 2 is forced to be self-sufficient. This means far fewer sims than the 34 sims that Linden Lab provided last year, but it also means greater self-control for the artists and volunteers who come together to create this magnificent event.

Burn 2 gates will open on October 16, but if you want a more active role, you can sign up now. Before signing up, read the Burning Man Ten Principles. These are the basic rules that govern all activities at both Burning Man and Burn 2, mandating that all activities will be not-for-profit and that all participants will be both self-reliant and collaborative.

Here are some of Burn 2 opportunities:
• Performers. Performance artists can sign up now for stage time at www.burn2.org/performance.
• Land: Builders, designers, and artists can reserve land at Burn 2 in two ways: through an $8,000L donation or through a lottery. Get more information at www.burn2.org,
• Volunteer: Burn 2 is run by volunteers. A wide range of jobs is available, including Rangers, Lamplighters, Stage Managers, the Department of Mutant Vehicles, Gate Road Greeters, and an array of Crew positions. You can learn more and sign up at www.burn2.org/volunteer-signup.

You can learn more at the Burn 2 website, www.burn2.org.
