Ooh, lah, lah! Burlesque is coming to the Poconos this weekend for Jim Thorpe's 1st annual Burlesque Festival. This is a non-profit event with proceeds benefitting the Mauch Chunk Opera House. The event will include vendors selling burlesque clothing, makeup and other, ahem, items as well as two days worth of fun classes such as Burlesque 101, Cabaret Dancing, Hula Hoop and many others. There will also be a Burlesque competition on Saturday evening.

Friday March 26th
8:00PM – Our Kick-off party sponsored by L.T Verrastro’s at PepperJacks at 41 Broadway in Jim Thorpe. Free Food will be served and there will be Coors Light, Scarlett Lady and Blue Moon beers on tap for purchase! – FREE ADMISSION

ALL CLASSES ARE TAKING PLACE AT THE MAUCH CHUNK OPERA HOUSE! 14 WEST Broadway. Class tickets can be purchased here or you can pay admission to each at the door. Prices are listed below with the class description. Each class can be individually audited for a $20 charge or you can purchase the all class access pass for $50 OR a full event pass for ‘The Big Reveal’ and Class access for $75. Some classes do have an additional materials charge that will be taken by the instructor at the door and are noted below (this is in addition to any tickets purchased).
Burlesque 101 with Velma Candyass
Curious about burlesque but don’t know where to begin? Or do you just need a little boost of self-confidence? This naughty fun-filled workshop is led by Velma Candyass, Joy Toyz instructor and choreographer of the Montreal-based Dead Doll Dancers, will guide you through the basics of Burlesque with easy-to-follow, expert instruction . You will learn some of the history of Burlesque as a performance art form and discover the empowerment and self confidence that the erotic dance genre can develop within you.
Students will be guided through a warmup then learn the fun , flirty and don’t forget the naughty movements to create the basics of a routine.
Wear comfy exercise types clothes and bring a pair of high heels .

Poi Spinning
Poi spinning is a performance art that employs a ball or balls attached to a flexible material and swung in circular patterns. It can be done using fire or any glowing material. Riley Schillaci will be teaching the art of Poi Spinning at our festival weekend. It is guaranteed to be a fun, interesting experience!

Makeup 101 – Instructor: AneeLia Diamond
This class will get you up to date on the latest makeup trends and application techniques. Class includes history of makeup, details on specifc makeup products and application of day, night and stage makeup. Two people from the class will be choosen as assistants and have their
makeup done at no additional cost. Already know your stuff? Answer trivia questions to win prizes.

Hula Hoop 101
Beginners hoop class: Anyone can hula hoop! Join Suri in learning the basics of hooping! A hoop demonstration will be given followed by learning to hoop around the waist and a few fun tricks to get you started. Hoops will be provided, space is limited.

Beginner Belly dance for Burlesque
Enhance your burlesque performance with sensuous belly dance moves. Learn circles, figure 8’s, shimmies and more with Morgana Perizada. Class will be one hour in length, please dress comfortably. Hand-outs will be provided.

The Art of Removing the Glove – AnShanna-Cyrese daughter of Burlesque legend, April March First lady of Burlesque
AnShanna-Cyrese is the daughter of Burlesque legend, April March -First lady of Burlesque. She will be teaching the technique of very lady like and seductively removing those long gloves that leaves the audience wanting more. Although AnShanna is not a performer, she grew up in the Burlesque world and saw behind the scenes as she witnessed her legendary mother teach younger performers the yester-year art. BRING YOUR FAVORITE PAIR OF GLOVES!
