Food news items make strange bedfellows. Take for instance two events scheduled for this coming week. At first blush, they seem as disparate as two food-related activities can get. Yet they are joined at the hip in terms of their offbeatness.
The first event, on Monday, August 23, is described in the press kit as "an explosively risqué night of Burlesque Cabaret hosted by the infamous Calamity Chang." The name of the proceedings is “Drunken Dragon Night,” which seems to speak volumes. So does the location, Macao Trading Co., a bar that takes as its cue from the Chinese region noted for gambling, carousing, and -- go know -- for boasting the highest life expectancy in the world.
The party starts at 9 p.m. on Monday. The burlesque performance begins at 11. Admission is free. Macao Trading Co. is located at 311 Church St, Ground Floor, 212-431-8750.
The second event lends a whole new meaning to immovable feast. On Wednesday, August 25, subscribers to Tasting Table New York (registration free) will get and exclusive close-up-and-personal on the brand new digs of Goods, the vintage food truck launched in June by 3rd Ward. Recently, a decision was made to give the truck roots at the corner of Lorimer Street and Metropolitan Avenue in Brooklyn. Doesn't that defeat the whole idea of a restaurant one wheels?
Whatever. The feast on Wednesday, which will $25 per person, will include unlimited helpings of corn-fried oysters, chicken and andouille jambalaya, and hot beignets. There will be house-made iced tea and lemonade to wash all that goodness down. Goods is located 571 Lorimer Street, at Metropolitan Ave, Brooklyn, 347-763-1622.
