Burleson hit a median wall early Tuesday morning in Allen Park, Michigan, after he tried to save two pizzas from falling on the floor which were sliding off his passenger seat. Police are saying alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
Burleson is coming off an outstanding game against the Washington Redskins on Sunday. In Detroit's 27-20 victory, Burleson made six catches for 116 yards, leading the Lions in receiving.
The injury is a huge blow for Detroit, who currently has a 2-1 record in the NFC North, and is the only team in the NFC at the moment over .500 and not leading their division.
The Lions' management are not reporting how long Burleson will be out, but he will obviously be out of the lineup indefinitely. The injury to Burleson will also allow teams facing the Lions to double and triple team Calvin Johnson, who becomes the only serious wide receiver threat in Detroit.
The Lions will also need star running back Reggie Bush back as soon as possible to help with their offensive production. Bush missed last week against Washington because of a left knee injury.
