Bacon – it’s one of our favorite foods. With a side of eggs for breakfast, on a sandwich for lunch, encrusted on a prime cut of steak for dinner. The salty, cured meat, a favorite on our palates, can also be injurious to our health, as one Swedish factory worker found out.
MSN Now reported Oct. 4 that a man was sent to the hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden early Thursday morning because he was crushed under a half-ton of falling, raw bacon.
At around 7 a.m. Thursday, the worker at the meatpacking plant was buried under the bacon after a trolley of sorts carrying the pork toppled over. Talk about bringing home the bacon.
“I don't know exactly how it happened, but somehow the trolley fell over. I've never heard of anything like this,” Gothenburg police spokesman Peter Adlersson said. “It's a rather unusual accident, you might say.”
The man was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and later released, relatively unscathed, though certainly quite greasy.
“We've learned that he sustained minor back injuries as a result of the accident,” Adlersson said, adding that a formal investigation may be initiated by the Swedish Work Environment Authority.
“We're relieved he's OK, but we're sending our resumes just in case they need some extra workers in this magical-sounding bacon warehouse,” says MSN.
