A small dog is dead after being attacked by intruders at a Phoenix, Ariz., residence, reported Thursday's publication of AZ Central.
The attack on the little dog happened on Wednesday afternoon when a home was ransacked and several items were stolen.
Whoever broke into the house did much more than destroy the homeowner's personal property - the family dog, who was inside of a kennel at the time, was attacked and fatally wounded with a Samurai sword that was found by the people who broke into the home.
The three-year-old dog who was stabbed, a Shih Tzu named "Knuckles," was still alive when his family returned home, but the multiple wounds from the sword proved fatal and a veterinarian decided that humane euthanasia was the only option.
Authorities are hoping to obtain leads on the disturbing crime from the public. Anyone with a tip or information is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6151 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (480-948-6377) or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish.
