A home invasion on Sunday, March 17, didn’t go as planned, but instead landed the burglar in the hospital, and eventually jail, after getting shot by his own gun, according to The Houston Chronicle.
Armed with a handgun and wearing a mask, 32-year-old Richard Charles Holcombe broke into a home in Dickinson, Texas, about 25 miles northwest of Galveston. When confronted by the homeowner, the Holcombe aimed his gun at him and demanded money, jewelry and his car keys.
The homeowner then went into a bedroom to retrieve his wallet and car keys. After handing it over, the burglar again demanded jewelry, but the homeowner insisted that they did not have any. This only angered the criminal and led to a physical altercation between the two men. During the struggle, the criminal’s firearm was discharged several times, hitting Holcombe in the hand and leg.
Holcombe fled in a vehicle and was pulled over and arrested by police a short time later. He was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries and was then released to the Galveston County Jail.
The homeowner’s wife and son were also home during the invasion, but none of the three were injured.
