Facebook was responsible for an alleged burglar's arrest when he stopped to check his Facebook account (or maybe he wanted to update his status to say "I got a nice haul on my last job" - just kidding). However he forgot to log out from the victim's computer. He did manage to steal two diamond rings.
The suspected burglar was Jonathan G. Parker aged 19, from Fort Loudoun, Pennsylvania, and was arraigned on one count of felony daytime burglary.
The Berkeley County Sheriff's Department responded to the victim's phone call after the robbery on Aug 28th. According to the report, the victim had discovered that someone had broken into her home through a bedroom window. There were open cabinets in her garage, and other signs of a burglar. The intruder also used her computer to check his Facebook account, and his account was still open when she checked the computer. The victim noticed that two diamond rings worth $3500 were missing from her dresser, which was in the same room as her computer.
The police spoke with a friend of Parker's who said that that the night before the burglary, Parker asked him if he wanted to help break into the victim's home but he refused. Parker is in custody at the Eastern Regional Jail on $10,000 bail, and if convicted he faces one to 10 years in prison.
