Burger King supports the LGBT community with a ‘Proud Whopper’

Burger King just launched an awesome new marketing campaign. This new promotion is to support the LGBT community with a gay pride burger. Burger King is calling it “The Proud Whopper,” and it comes packaged in a rainbow colored wrapper that reads, “We are all the same inside.” All the proceeds generated from this campaign will support the Burger King McLamore Foundation for scholarships aiding LGBT high school seniors graduating in spring 2015.

Burger King’s marketing effort was to connect with customers in a more meaningful way. Specifically, they wanted to target the younger demographics that fast-food chains are well known for attracting. The burger giant said they retired “Have It Your Way” and is now using the slogan “Be Your Way.” Their press release explained that the fast-food chain’s main intentions of this campaign were to not tell people how they should live, but rather aim to elevate “Have It Your Way” to a more meaningful place.

Over the past weekend, Burger King shot a video in San Francisco at one of their locations. It was near the heart of the 44th annual gay pride parade. The video was released to their YouTube channel this morning. It featured the feedback of numerous people – good and bad. It also showed the real reactions that patrons had inside of the Burger King when offered “The Proud Whopper.”

As for South Florida, we will not be able to purchase the burger that is on sale through July 3rd. The “Proud Whopper” is going for $4.20 exclusively at the Burger King restaurant at 1200 Market Street in San Francisco, Calif. Even though South Florida residents cannot buy the “The Proud Whopper,” they can join the conversation on social mean by using #BeYourWay.
