The official opening date for the Burger 21 chain's first New York State location was officially revealed on Thursday. It's 11 a.m. Monday (August 25) at 622 New Loudon Road in the Albany suburb of Latham. The first 100 guests will receive company T-shirts and be enrolled in a drawing for a portable grill.

The announcement had been slightly delayed because of the construction schedule at the new Village at New Loudon business complex where the burger restaurant was being finished. That complex already has seen the recent opening of Bellini's, part of a local group of full-service Italian restaurants, and its sibling Bellini's Counter, which is a sort of mix-and-match service offering carryout meals.

Mike Stygles, who operates The Melting Pot franchise at Crossgates Mall in nearby Guilderand, is the franchisee who will run this link in the three-year-old Florida chain that,as of Mondaym, will have venues in seven states. The corporate parent is Front Burner Brands, which among other things owns The Melting Pot chain.

Burger 21 offers 21 kinds of burgers (beef, turkey, chicken, veggie, tuna and shrimp), plus chicken tenders, hot dogs, sliders, fries, salads and desserts. On the 21st of each month, a special is introduced. In addition, on that same day, each restaurant in the chain donates 10% of the day’s proceeds to a local charity or school.

Front Burner created Burger 21 in November 2009 in Tampa, Florida, researching and taste-testing literally hundreds of types of burgers before working on the decor and culture of their concept. Rather than restrict itself to the standard beef burgers and veggie burgers, the restaurant offers such unusual alternatives as the Bayou Burger (housemade andouille sausage and topped with a skewer of blackened grilled shrimp, sriracha and remoulade sauces, served on a bed of Cajun slaw on a toasted brioche bun) and the Spicy Thai Shrimp Burger (lightly-fried shrimp burger with lettuce, tomato, sriracha aïoli, sesame Thai slaw and pure sriracha on a toasted sesame bun). The menu also offers fresh salads, gourmet hot dogs,chicken dishes and such $4.99 handmade ice cream shake flavors as chocolate malted milk ball, strawberry short cake, key lime pie, bananas Foster and crème brûlée.
