Buona Sera Vatican City!

The Catholic empire and smallest country have acquired a brand new leader for all to admire. On Wednesday March 13, 2013 white smoke billowed high atop St. Peter's signaling to devout Catholics of the new pope elect. A wave of crimson capes gathered around the infamous balcony to welcome Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio as Pope Francis.

Thousands crowded in the tiny square to catch a glimpse of their new shepherd. Pope Francis hails from Buenos Arias, Argentina, the first pope in centuries to be elected outside of Western Europe. His roots still stem back to the Italian heritage. The hauntingly beautiful silence was filled with Pope Francis's serene, Italian prayer as all bowed their heads in solace.

If you are planning a trip to "la citta eterna" Vatican City should take priority on your itinerary. Wonder at the splendor of St. Peter's Basilica while taking a peak at Michelangelo's Pieta. Journey to the top of the dome for Rome's most prized view. Venture to the Vatican Museum and marvel at the perfection of The Sistine Chapel. After, enjoy an outdoor lunch nestled alongside the Egyptian obelisk in the square's center. Vatican City also hosts special outdoor prayer services given by Pope Francis!
