Bungie Aerospace Set For Takeoff

Today Bungie announced the launch of Bungie Aerospace, it's new partner program to help independent studios develop games for the mobile space including iOS and Android based devices. It's first partner is Seattle-based Harebrained Schemes, which is led by Jordan Weisman, creator of the viral "I Love Bees" promotion for Halo 2. Their first title, "Crimson," will be released on iOS and Android later this summer.

While it is nice to see Bungie reaching out to independent developers and help bring their unique games to the marketplace, it is a slightly disappointing announcement considering what Aerospace was rumored to be. The Aerospace domain was registered by Bungie earlier this summer which set off a firestorm of rumors assuming that Aerospace was the code name for Bungie's next project, their first non-Halo game in over a decade and also the first as part of their new deal with publisher Activision, who Bungie signed with after leaving the Microsoft stable of game developers. While it appears we will have to wait just a little bit longer for an announcement concerning that project, this also lays to rest the rumors that Bungie itself was working on a mobile game after they posted job listings for mobile developers. It looks like we still have no clues as to what Bungie's next project is, although I'd be willing to bet it involves guns. And shooting from a first person perspective.
