The Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon province sent out a plume of steam and ash this Saturday according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOLCS).
The cloud of steam and ash rose 1,980 feet (600 metres) and fell over areas as far as six miles (10 kilometres) from the mountain.
Because of this recent volcanic activity, PHILVOLCS has raised the Alert Level status of Bulusan Volcano from Alert level 0 to Alert Level I (abnormal).
However, even though there was activity Saturday there is no indication that more activity is imminent in coming days according to PHILVOLCS Director Renato Solidum.
While PHILVOLCS will be keeping an eye on Bulusan, Solidum did not see the need for the evacuation of residents in nearby areas, and added that the four-kilometer buffer zone was sufficient for now.
He goes on to say that Bulusan was still a long way from a full-blown eruption. The highest alert level is five.
Mount Bulusan, or Bulusan Volcano, is found in southern Luzon in Sorsogon province in the Bicol Region.
Buluson last erupted in 2007 (see video).
