Bully Ray makes homophobic slurs; TNA crushes his character with formal apology

On Thursday, March 14, TNA aired one live episode of Impact Wrestling from Chicago and taped another. Apparently, after the live episode of Impact had ended, another incident happened between TNA world champion Bully Ray and a fan. Only this time, Bully Ray is the one in "hot water". According to a March 19 report by WrestlingInc.com, Bully Ray made some homophobic slurs toward at least one fan in the crowd as he was leaving the ring and heading backstage through the crowd.

This was the second incident that Bully Ray had that night. The first one came in the early part of the live broadcast when a fan hit Bully Ray in the face. That fan was tossed from the building. Unfortunately for Bully Ray, he could be the one getting into serious trouble with this time.

This incident has drawn the ire of TNA President Dixie Carter who made the following comments via her Twitter page:

"Heard @RealBully5150 made inappropriate comments to a fan in Chicago. This will not be tolerated. Sincere apologies on behalf of TNA."

To Bully Ray's credit, and to the detriment of his character, the TNA champion took responsibility for these comments as he made the following apology on Twitter:

"Made an inappropriate comment to a fan in Chicago. If anyone was offended by this...I do apologize. No harm was meant."

Bully Ray is supposed to be the top heel in the company. His "bully" like antics are what make people hate him. Unfortunately, his homophobic remarks will end up hurting his character and get him in trouble with management. It would not surprise anyone if Bully Ray was quietly punished or fined for this incident. As for his character, it kills all of his "heat" when he's making formal apologies on Twitter.

In the old days of pro-wrestling, the villains could get away with saying just about anything. Nowadays, we live in a country that's very "PC" and wrestlers have to watch what they say, otherwise controversial incidents like this happen.
