The Bulls released waived Tornike (Toko) Shengelia and signed forward Greg Smith for the remainder of the season.
Shengelia was acquired from the Brooklyn Nets in January in exchange for Marquis Teague in a move that got the Bulls from paying the $1.1 million owed to Teague next season.
Shengelia appeared in just nine games for the Bulls.
Smith has played two-plus seasons with the Houston Rockets and is currently rehabbing a right knee that he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in late February that has placed him out for the season. The signing appears to be for the future as Smith is owed $1 million next season and the Bulls needing big man insurance with most expecting Nazr Mohammad to retire or to play elsewhere. The team could also use Smith for trade flexibility in the offseason.
Smith has career averages of 5.2 points on 62.3 percent shooting and 4.1 rebounds in just 14.4 minutes over 89 games with the Rockets.
The Bulls roster still stands at 15.
