Bailey O'Neill, 12, who was supposedly bullied at school a month ago has died according to a report by NBC News on March 4. Bailey died Sunday morning after he was taken off life support. He turned 12 the day before he died. He had been in a medically induced coma after he suffered several seizures after he was bullied at recess at school according to his parents.
Flags are at half staff today in Bailey's memory at Darby Township School, in Darby Township, Pa. and counselors are at the school today also. The seizures that caused the doctors to put Bailey in a medically induced coma occurred after he suffered a concussion and a broken nose during the altercation. Bailey's grandmother, Joy Fecanin told NBC10's Katy Zachry that O'Neill had to have a blood transfusion after he contracted pneumonia.
The following message was posted on the Building Hope for Bailey Facebook Page:
"I would like to thank everyone who has prayed and supported Bailey and his family!! Bailey has been the strongest toughest boy I know. He has fought this battle long and hard. There just wasn't a way to fix this. I wish I could say he will get better but I can't. Bailey has gone to be with God today :( I love you Jina Risoldi with all my heart and I will help you through this. Bailey I love you!!! Please keep Baileys family in your prayers!!!"
When the bullied boy was put into a coma, the Southeast Delco School District suspended one of the bullies that was accused of injuring O'Neill for two days. Since O'Neill has now died, Jack Whelan, Delaware County District Attorney, stated that he is investigating whether the injuries that Bailey received during the fight caused the seizures or if something else caused them. O'Neill's family has taken Bailey's younger brother out of the school in fear that he too would be bullied.
My sincere condolences go out to Bailey O'Neill's family during this difficult time.
