The much anticipated auction of Astrid Kirchherr pictures, which to take place this weekend and include hundreds of early photos of the Beatles, was cancelled after Guernsey's Auctions announced that the entire collection had been sold in advance.
"Although there will be hundreds of great Rock & Roll Auction lots being sold on Saturday, the entire Astrid Kirchherr Beatles Collection has been sold and Sunday's auction cancelled," read a note on the auctioneer's website. "We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but it was done in the best interests of preservation and with Astrid in mind."
The auction was to include over 700 pictures of the Beatles from 1960-68, Stuart Sutcliffe, Pete Best, Ringo Starr, Patti Boyd, Cynthia Lennon, Herman's Hermits playing at the Cavern, Jackie Lomax in the studio with George Harrison, shots of Liverpool children playing on the street, and Astrid herself.

The sale was to include both the negatives and copyrights. "Buyers will not only end up with beautiful prints of these pictures, but they'll have the negatives and the rights to use those negatives in the way that a photographer would have the rights to use them," Arlan Ettinger of Guernsey's told us in an interview.
There's been no word on who purchased the pictures.
