After appearing in films and television shows as an actor, most notably Richard Linklater’s Suburbia, Sam Raimi’s Spiderman, and Tom McCarthy’s The Station Agent, Jayce Bartok was inspired to write and star in The Cake Eaters. Jayce’s critically acclaimed feature screenplay debut, was directed by Mary Stuart Masterson, stars Kristen Stewart, and premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. The anticipated film Fall to Rise follows a renowned principal dancer whose injury forces her out of her company and uncomfortably into the role of motherhood. She realizes that her identity depends on dance and she struggles to return with the help of another former company dancer. With its star turns by ballerina Katherine Crockett (featured in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and the acclaimed actress Daphne Rubin-Vega, this is a timeless tale with a distinctly New York flavor, revealing the conflict between art and life, between marriage and independence. I asked Jayce simply “Why dancing?” he said “my wife was a former dancer and I was reading a book about the ballet and said to myself no one has ever made a movie about dancers (then came Black Swan) but I still wanted to showcase these two women’s lives because it was very compelling”. Jayce is a very funny guy and him and his wife are awesome. He’s also a huge whisky fan which makes this partnership all the more interesting.
