Bulger bought guns from private dealers

Documents filed Thursday by federal prosecutors revealed that Boston mobster James “Whitey” Bulger purchased 15 handguns and a 12-gauge shotgun while one of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives.

Firearms tracing reports indicate that Bulger likely bought the weapons from private sellers at gun shows in Nevada and Utah where background checks and identification are not required.

The 83-year-old has previously been an FBI informant and Alcatraz inmate.

The former Winter Hill Gang leader is charged with 19 murders.

Bulger and his girlfriend Catherine Grieg were captured in Santa Monica, Calif. in 2011 after 16 years on the run.

Authorities discovered an arsenal of 29 weapons along with $800,000 in cash hidden in their apartment.

Bulger is set to go on trial June 6.
