Build a snowman at the beach

See also

Just because the South Bay doesn’t experience cold, snowy winters doesn’t mean you have to miss out on traditional winter pastimes.

There’s ice skating in Palos Verdes and sledding at Spyder Snowfest. Hmmmm, what’s missing……?

The South Bay may not have snow but there’s sand….lots and lots of sand. So, instead of building a snowman, how about building a sand snowman?

The City of Hermosa Beach invites children of all ages to compete in the annual Sand Snowman Contest on Saturday, December 7.

Arrive early and claim your building site. Registration starts at 8:45 a.m. north of the Hermosa Pier at shoreline and building commences at 9 a.m.

Prizes will be awarded for the Most Unique, Most Traditional, Best Dressed, Hermosa Beach Favorite and Funniest. Judging begins at 11:15 a.m. with awards being presented at 11:30 a.m.

It’s time to assemble the construction crew, haul out the heavy equipment (pails, shovels, coal, corn cob pipe, etc) and get into a winter state of mind.

Awards and prizes are nice but bragging rights are better.
