Buick at the Los Angeles Auto Show

   2011 Buick Regal

The Regal is back.

Yes, that was the 2011 Buick Regal being show at the General Motors stand last month at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show. The new mid-size sedan is based on the Opel Insignia, and it will be available in only one trim level--CXL--at first. The first models will be built in Germany, then production will slide to Canada as the first 2012 models are built in early 2011. At that point, other trim levels will become available, but all trims will have four-cylinder power.

The first Regals will have a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 182 horsepower. Later models will have an optional 220-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder. Six-speed automatic transmissions will be offered with both engines at first, and a 6-speed manual will become available later on turbocharged models.

The new Regal goes on sale in the second quarter of 2010.
