Bugged Playstation 3 units returning to normal

Older Playstation 3 model.

It seems like the massive Playstation 3 outage yesterday may be coming to an end. Multiple forums posters are reporting that their Playstation 3 models are beginning to function properly again.

Yesterday, older Playstation 3 models prior to the slim unit that launched last fall were unable to launch games or connect to the Playstation Network. Many suspect that the bug may be related to the date. It seems that Sony has now fixed the problem.

Update: For those who are still having problems, NeoGAF has provided a fix:

1. Disable and re-enable internet connection, test it and set the clock.
2. Connect to PSN
3. If any trophies don't show up, start the game, exit and resync the trophies. For some games, you might have to play for a minute or so and then exit.

Update #2: Sony has announced that the Playstation Network has been restored:

We are aware that the internal clock functionality in the PS3 units other than the slim model, recognized the year 2010 as a leap year. Having the internal clock date change from February 29 to March 1 (both GMT), we have verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that users are able to use their PS3 normally.

If the time displayed on the XMB is still incorrect, users are able to adjust time settings manually or via the internet. If we have new information, we will update you through the PlayStation.Blog or PlayStation.com.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

"It seems that Sony has now fixed the problem."

But Sony didn't actually do anything!?

It's an 'auto-fix' from the internal clock seems more like the case.

I suspected it was a clock glitch from the moment I found out about it. This is pathetic that it happened.

Looks like everything is returning to normal. Still Pi$$ed at Sony. They didn't fix anything, it was all about waiting out a day for that leap year glitch to pass...which shouldn't have been there in the first place.

it was an auto-fix, Sony just waited for march 2nd and it sorted it out self out.

Everyone can collectively unbunch their freaking panties now... And people can stop mobbing the internet with articles and posts about how horrible this issue was and how it hurts Sony blah blah blah. Funniest thing was how pre-orders for FF XIII had gone up because of this...give me a break.

Yeah it sucked. I was worried for about an hour there. Then I had other crap to do and went to work today and when I turned on my PS3 again it was fine.

Better than waiting a week to get my rrod 360 fixed, twice. Or paying a buddy 20$ to fix my rrod!
