Bugatti Veyron wrecked into salt water

Spending over one million dollars simply can't make you a better driver. A Bugatti Veyron was spotted wrecked into a salt water lagoon in Texas after a driver made the wrong decision. The vehicle has ample traction control systems, but even at $1.5m the car can't float! Once a vehicle has been submerged into salt water, it is a complete loss. Salt water will corrode and rust every piece of unprotected metal in the vehicle quickly. Chances are the driver didn't hit the kill switch in time and salt water was sucked into all sixteen cylinders. Doh!

Special thanks to Rob. E, San Jose Autos Examiner, for bringing to our attention Worldcarfans.com report about this not being a total loss. According to their report, the car should be able to be salvaged because the majority of construction materials. That is true if Bugatti's claimed superior assembly process and materials is true. Aluminum is only corrosion resistant and can be susceptible to damage from salt water corrosion over time and by direct contact with other anode acting metals. The vehicle was only exposed to the salt water for a short period of time therefore if the parts are carefully washed the vehicle could be saved, but fastener points are still at risk.

Depending on the type of fasteners used there would be a galvanic reaction once salt water is introduced as a electrolytic catalyst at any point in the vehicle where steel meets aluminum if there is not a sacrificial anode such as zinc or magnesium to separate the two metals. If steel fasteners are used without the special coating, all steel and aluminum connection points would be candidates for corrosion if not properly taken apart and cleaned. Time is ticking, if they don't play their cards right impending doom via galvanic reactions will surely be the demise of this Bugatti but only if it is not built to the standard we expect for $1.5 million dollars. If the non-coated aluminum and steel connections exist, they will be host to damaging corrosion and will expose many things about the Veyron's true construction.

This is a prime example of what not to do with an exotic car. When driving an exotic, pay attention to your surroundings and never fiddle with the radio, cell phone, etc. Just like in any other vehicle, wrecking a car only takes a fraction of a second! Unfortunately for the driver, the car is a complete loss. As seen being pulled from the lagoon, water is pouring out of every orifice. Covered in mud and muck, once a multi-million dollar exotic is now nothing more than a lawn ornament and an experiment to test Bugatti's claim to superior assembly. In ten years or so, we will know just how well the Bugatti is truly made.

Michael, Worldcarfans.com reports that they think it can be repaired due to the exotic materials and aluminium used throughout the car...

Check it out. Better to pay $600k in repairs than write-off $1mil, huh?
