Budgeting for the holidays Pt. 1: Go 'yellow' when packaging Christmas gifts

No matter how much people use the Internet to look up companies and addresses, apartment dwellers and sometimes home residents will still see Yellow Pages and White Pages show up in their lobbies and on front porches. There is an option to opt-out of Yellow Pages delivery. But why not make use of your old Yellow Pages while prepping Christmas gifts?

Packages of wrapping tissue paper may run anywhere from $1 for 25 sheets to $2 for decorative sheets for 20. Instead of buying more paper to sit around taking up space, make use of those directories. Tear a few sheets of Yellow Pages paper out, fold it if you want to be creative and use those sheets to hold Christmas gifts in place.

Of course if you really have a lot of paper left, Chicago has drop zone locations for those who don't participate in the Blue Cart Recycling Program.

Collect all of your old directories and drop off whatever you don't use for wrapping Christmas gifts.

If you really want to be amusing, find a personalized ad inside of the Yellow Pages and use that to wrap the gift. Got a friend who just loves popcorn? Look for a Garrett's popcorn ad in the Yellow Pages for easy wrapping. Of course you may have to use a few more sheets.

No need for anyone to shake this gift. The recipient will know what it is from the paper alone.
