Are you buying a new car this year and have an urge to upgrade to something with a little more kick? Buying a car with sporty features is more affordable now than it’s ever been. That’s because cars are offering drivers more than they ever had. Even vehicles in more affordable classes are equipped with power boosting characteristics and corner carving hardware. If you are in the market for a cool car at a hot price, here is list of the top cars that will deliver sportiness for under $30k.
Starting at $26,295
The base sedan is equipped with a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that puts out 268 horsepower. This model is also well-known for having very swift acceleration and sharp handling. The 2015 model has been redesigned to reclaim its place as sport compact king.
Starting at about $25,500
The Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S are one in the same: Each comes standard with a 200 horsepower engine, a 6-speed manual transmission, driveline traction control, and 17” aluminum wheels. Reviewers love the vehicle's sport tuned suspension, low center of gravity for tight handling, and low curb weight (less than 3k pounds).
In terms of choosing between the two models, be sure to compare them with features and add-ons. The base prices are nearly identical (the Subaru is a touch more than the Scion), but pricing changes once you start adding on extras.
Starting at $23,625
The Focus ST comes standard with an EcoBoost 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged and intercooled engine that puts out 252 horsepower. Other parts of the design like the 18” aluminum wheels, traction control, and electronic stability control make this one sporty Focus.

This Miata comes standard with a 2.0L 4-cylinder that puts out 167 horsepower to carry the ultra-light chassis. It is also equipped with a 5-speed manual, 16” aluminum wheels, electronic stability, and traction control for a “go-kart on steroids” feel.
Starting at $23,555
For a whole lot of muscle at a pretty small price, the Chevy Camaro is your car. The V6 base model comes equipped with a 323 horsepower engine that still manages to get 30 mpg. Its sporty looks and optional 6-speed manual transmission will make you feel like you own the road, without actually feeling like you actually paid for it.
Starting at $21,400
Powered by a 1.6L EcoBoost engine, this turbocharged car makes 197 horsepower. It also has surprisingly sporty looks and impressive technology features for a minimal price.
Honorable Mention: 2015 Mustang
The 2015 Mustang is not yet available for purchase by consumers yet, so it doesn’t get an official place on this list. Word is, this model will be available late in the year, and it seems like it will be more than worth the wait. The Mustang’s new S550 platform will come with a 3.7L V6 that makes 300 horsepower and 270 lbs-ft of torque — Ford will also offer a turbo-changed 4-cylinder. The appearance and available options are also getting a huge overhaul for the new generation of the Pony car.
