A Detroit original for 67 years and headquartered in Farmington Hills, Buddy’s Pizza will receive two notable awards from Michigan’s restaurant industry this month.
First, the Michigan Restaurant Association has recognized Buddy’s Pizza as the 2013 Michigan Restaurant Neighbor Award winner for its partnership with Alliance for the Great Lakes. In June 2012, Buddy’s launched the Made in Michigan Great Lakes pizza collection. By the end of year, Buddy’s donated $6,000 to the Alliance for the Great Lakes to aid in efforts that support the preservation and restoration of the mitten’s greatest resource. Buddy’s will now go on to compete against other state award recipients for the national prize.
Four national award recipients will be chosen for the prestigious honor and recognized for efforts that go above and beyond in community service and efforts that inspire other restaurateurs to get or stay involved in their local communities. National winners also receive $5,000 to assist in community service efforts. Those award recipients will be chosen in April 2013.
In addition, Buddy’s Pizza, with 9 locations throughout metro Detroit, has been selected as the recipient of the Family Restaurant of the Year Award for 2013. This award will be presented by the Awards Committee of Grocery Manufacturer Representatives and the Michigan Food and Beverage Association.
Buddy’s Pizza President Robert Jacobs will accept the honor on March 14 as part of its 85thannual Trade Dinner event at 42 Degrees North in the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center. The event serves as a celebration of the food, beverage and agricultural industries and will benefit the Michigan Youth Appreciation Foundation. It is set for 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 14.
“Buddy’s Pizza began as a neighborhood establishment in Detroit in 1946,” said Jacobs. “Involvement in our the community and taking care of those customers who have been coming to our restaurants for many years – as well as getting to know Buddy’s newcomers – has been an important part of our business since the start. I’m pleased to receive these awards on behalf of our Buddy’s family.”
