Josh D stated "Buddy Holly was one of the greats taken to soon,it would of been awesome had he lived on to see just how much more of an impact he would of had of the music industry."Buddy Holly was among the very first group of inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986, and in 2004, 45 years after Holly's tragic death Rolling Stone ranked Buddy Holly #13 among "The Fifty Greatest Artists of All Time."

Buddy Holly met a man by the name of Elvis Presley in 1955 during a Lubbock performance, and soon began to,pattern some of Elvis' rockabilly style and Chuck Berry's strong guitar playing and along with his band the Crickets, consisting of Holly on lead guitar and vocals, Niki Sullivan on guitar,Joe B Mauldin on bass and Jerry Allison on drums. The band headed for Nashville where they recorded three sessions with producer Owen Bradley, the first "That'll Be The Day," a song that was written from a line in a John Wayne film "The Searchers." On May 27,1957 "That'll Be The Day" was first released as a single and topped the U.S."Best Sellers in Stores.Three weeks later on September 23,Buddy Holly and The Crickets performed "That'll Be The Day and "Peggy Sue on the Ed Sullivan Show on Dec 1 and it was all history from there, sadly the history was short lived for Buddy Holly.

Buddy Holly's last day started off as he was offered a spot in the Winter Dance Party- a three week tour to take place across the Midwest starting on January 23,1959. Along with Holly performers on the tour include legends Dion and the Belmonts, Ritchie Valens and J.P "The Big Bopper " Richardson. also on the tour were musicians Tommy Allsup, Waylon Jennings and Carl Bunch.

The excitement over the tour soon became a miserable ordeal for the musicians, the long road travels from town to town in a bus that was less than the mansions on wheels that todays musicians travel in. The heating system went kaput during -25F (-32C) unbearable temps along with several bus breakdowns, was just to much for the artists to handle any longer.

On a bitterly cold night, beat down and exhausted from the tour after a concert at the Surf Ballroom in Clear lake,Iowa on February 2,1959, Buddy Holly decided to charter a small plane to take him to the next tour stop. Buddy, Richie Valens and Richardson were killed on their way to Moore head, Minn when their plane crashed near Mason City on February 3,1959.Interesting fact Waylon Jennings decided to give up his seat on the plane, nervous to fly, which instigated in a teasing type of trash talk with Holly saying "I hope your ol' bus freezes up! With Waylon playfully coming back with a statement that would haunt him the rest of his life saying "Well.I hope your ol' plane crashes!"

Years later, in 1971, Don McLean released his single, "American Pie”, to commemorate Buddy Holly’s death and further accentuate the loss of the United States’ innocence. McLean’s song began the reference to the tragedy as "The Day the Music Died."

Cincinnati, celebrate what would of been Buddy Holly's 75th birthday here with others by sharing your memories and favorite tunes.
