Budding burlesquers can learn from a star on Saturday

This weekend, Texas burlesquers have a rare opportunity to study with Jo Weldon, headmistress of the New York School of Burlesque and one of the leading stars of the art form.

Weldon will be teaching her signature “Classic Moves of Burlesque” class from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Move Studio in Dallas. The class, for women only, will include lessons on glove peeling, boas and tassel twirling. Students will also learn and perform a fully choreographed striptease.

The class costs $40 and online registration closes Thursday (although several additional spots will be held for those paying in cash on the day of).

The star of several instructional DVDs and the author of the forthcoming “The Burlesque Handbook,” Weldon is an internationally renowned and respected burlesque personality who learned her craft directly from the original burlesque stars of the ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s.
