Bud Selig most likely deciding compensation for Theo Epstein

It has been widely speculated that the Commissioner's Office would have to step in and decided what compensation the Boston Red Sox get for allowing the Chicago Cubs to hire Theo Epstein as their President and General Manager while he was still under contract in Boston.  Both sides seem to have very different ideas as to what constitutes acceptable compensation and a deal needs to be finalized, so with the World Series ending last night, the case can be brought to Selig's office as soon as Tuesday morning.

“If I had to guess today, it’ll be another thing that I have to deal with on November 1st,” Selig said Friday night before Game 7 of the World Series.

The Cubs seem to want to only have to part with the lowest level players while the Red Sox reportedly started the negotiations by asking for starting pitcher Matt Garza...so the teams are pretty well far apart.  If you're the type who likes to read into cryptic quotes, as a Red Sox fan you might find these words from Selig encouraging:

“From the Cubs’ standpoint, they’ve done very well, and I know how much it means to Tom Ricketts (the Cubs' owner) and all the Cubs’ fans”

There's no way to determine what will be decided if or when the Commissioner has to step in, but if he thinks the Cubs have already "done very well" it isn't ridiculous to think that might mean something good for the Red Sox.
