Bud Light Platinum makes Super Bowl 2012 party checklist

The brand new Bud Light Platinum from Anheuser-Busch has made it onto my Super Bowl XLVI party checklist.

As of January 31, 2012, the Budweiser line of alcoholic goodness has added a brand new beer to it’s arsenal – Bud Light Platinum. Being a Budweiser-only beer drinker (Bud Light is just too light for me) I had to try this new “High End” beer from Anheuser-Busch. Would it be good enough to replace Budweiser in my cooler at our annual Super Bowl XLVI party?

Upon opening the 12-pack of Bud Light Platinum, I couldn’t help but notice the “pretty” blue bottle and “platinum” bottle cap – women are going to love this stuff just by the looks alone. That being said, I twisted off (yes it’s still a twist-cap) the top and dove right in to the brand new “light” beer which has 6% alcohol, more than Bud Light and Budweiser. Now I’m no beer snob by all means, I didn’t do the whole “pour” into a special glass ordeal, I went right into it, straight from the blue bottle. My first impression is that this is a not-so-light Bud Light beer, perfect for an all-day drinking event, such as Super Bowl XLVI.

While I will not be switching from regular Budweiser forever, I will be substituting it today at my family’s annual Super Bowl party for Bud Light Platinum. Even if you are dead set on your hatred for light beers, I strongly urge you to go out and try Bud Light Platinum – you will most likely be pleasantly surprised.

Below is a fact sheet comparing Budweiser, Bud Light and Bud Light Platinum for those of you that have to watch your calories and carbs:

  • Budweiser – 5% Alcohol by volume, 145 calories and 10.6g carbs
  • Bud Light – 4.2% Alcohol by volume, 110 calories and 6.6g carbs
  • Bud Light Platinum – 6% Alcohol by volume, 137 calories and 4.4g carbs

I hope everyone has a great day today at their various Super Bowl XLVI parties and remember to drink responsibly!
