Shain Gandee, one of the stars of MTV's "Buckwild," died early on Monday, Apr. 1, 2013, after being trapped in his Ford Bronco with his uncle, David Gandee, and another individual. Word from the Washington Post later on Monday let it be known that production on the MTV series has been shut down for now.
Gandee, his uncle, and another person died after what is being reported as carbon monoxide poisoning. The Bronco was retrieved from the muddy pit that it was stuck in, and it appears as if the fumes could not escape the tailpipe due to it being completely submerged in mud.
MTV did release a statement on the passing of Shain Gandee:
“We are shocked and saddened by the terrible news about Shain Gandee, and those involved in this tragic incident,” MTV said in a statement. "We are waiting for more information, but at this time, our main concern is for the Gandee family and their friends,” MTV said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Shain had a magnetic personality, with a passion for life that touched everyone he met and we will miss him dearly."
Many have wondered if MTV would continue production of the "Buckwild" series after Gandee's death. Filming of the second season has already begun, but cameras with not with Gandee on Sunday morning according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Production on "Buckwild" has been shut down for now, and there is no word on when or if it will pick back up again.
