West Virginia police have confirmed that carbon monoxide is the cause of Shain Gandee’s death, as well as the two other passengers in his vehicle. The autopsy was completed today, according to TMZ on April 2.
A representative for the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Tuesday confirming the autopsy was complete. They also stated that the cause of death of Shain and the two other passengers was ruled as an accident.
As reported yesterday, Shain, his uncle David Gandee, and a family friend went off-roading early Sunday morning after leaving a local bar. The vehicles exhaust pipe had been submerged in the mud and caused the carbon monoxide to leak back into the vehicle. The vehicle was found by an ATV rider after they had been reported missing Monday morning.
The family is having a memorial mud run in honor of Shain Gandee to help with funeral expenses. The memorial will be held on Wednesday night in Proctorville, Ohio.
