“Buckwild” took over the Jersey Shore spot last night, Jan. 3, on MTV. From Seaside Heights, N.J. to Sissonville, W. Va., the casts of the reality shows could not be more different, but the genre is most definitely the same.
The series premiere of “Buckwild” served up a good dose of the same antics that viewers witnessed on “Jersey Shore,” with young adults getting drunk, fighting and generally being stupid. Of course this was sprinkled with a dose of sex that included both a crotch shot from one of the girls and bared breasts by another. This is where the similarity stops.
“Jersey Shore” made a point to stereotype Italians, despite that not all cast members were of Italian decent, whereas “Buckwild” does not attempt to be representative of young people from West Virginia. It does however show what some country kids do for fun and entertainment. Furthermore, “Buckwild” is most likely a truer view of the lives of young adults in a rural setting.
