The Bristol Riverside Theater (BRT) presents Steel Magnolias starting Mar. 20 and running through April 8.
Susan D. Atkinson directs the off-Broadway play, turned movie, turned Broadway play, starting Jennie Eisenhower (Shelby), Diane J. Findlay (Clairee), Barbara McCulloh (M’Lynn), Laura C. Giknis (Annelle), Susan Moses (Ouiser), and Jo Twiss (Truvy).
The play is set entirely in the beauty parlor of Truvy Jones, were a group of women in Chinquapin Parish, LA stand together laughing in order to survive the tears.
Steel Magnolias was a 1987 off-Broadway hit that was then developed into a film starring Julia Roberts, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Sally Field, Dolly Parton and Darryl Hannah. The play was subsequently revived on Broadway in 2005.
Tickets prices range from $30-$50. BRT offers additional discounts for students, military and groups.
In addition to its main-stage productions, the theatre serves as a cultural hub for the community, with such programs as children's theatre, community concerts and exhibitions of local visual arts.
