Bucks County celebrates International Women's Day with Power of the Purse

In recognition of International Women’s Day on Mar. 8, 2012, the Bucks County Women’s Initiative will host the 21st Annual Power of the Purse, honoring the local women and girls who have made a difference in the county. 
 
Bucks County Women’s Initiative of the United Way of Bucks County will honor seven women and two young ladies at the event. 
 
The women, Tara Bane, Clara Chirchirillo, Grace Godshalk, Fiona Havlish, Liuba Lashchyk, Valerie Mihalek and Ellen Saracini, will be honored for their roles in creating the Garden of Reflection, Bucks County’s memorial to the victims of the 9/11 attacks. 
 
The two young ladies, Neha Gupta and Lauren Buben, will be honored for their volunteer efforts with Empower Orphans and Give Kids the World Village

“Power of the Purse is focused on supporting women and girls in the Bucks County area,” says Amanda Walsh of Furia Rubel, a local marketing agency that volunteered to provide services for the event free of charge. 
 
“[This event] will be showcasing the good works of women in the area. This year’s honorees include the group of women who spearheaded the Bucks County Garden of Reflection 9/11 Memorial and two young women who are making a difference internationally and locally.”
 
The event is expected to attract nearly 500 community members from throughout Bucks County and will be emceed by Lynn Doyle, best known as the host of host of “It’s Your Call with Lynn Doyle.”
 
The Power of the Purse event will be held at Spring Mill Manor in Ivyland. The reception and silent auction begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m.
 
Tickets for the event are $80 for adults, $60 for those under 21-years-old or $1,000 for a table of 12.
