When Bucky Fuller expressed this idea as part of the many precise disciplines that proved so successful in his life, many people were confused. He never wanted or attempted to change anybody, but he was always working to alter people’s behavior so that they acted in a more loving, positive and sustainable manner.
Because he realized that one of the important generalized principles that governs all Universe was that anything and everything always moves in the path of least resistance, Bucky was continually looking for ways to alter environments and move people in such a direction. For example, in 1933 when he invented and built three Dymaxion Vehicle prototypes, he was not attempting to build a new automobile or change anyone. He was building an artifact that demonstrated many of Nature’s Generalized Principles, thereby educating people who can into contact with what they perceived as an ultramodern car.
The Dymaxion Vehicle was so far ahead of the times, that it would have made all other cars on the road obsolete. Accordingly, the major automobile manufacturers could not allow it to be mass-produced. Still, it offered people a vision of something that could be of great service to them and actually expand their freedom because it was a prototype for a vehicle that could travel on land, in the water or in the air. That would provide us with true freedom of movement.
We could live anywhere, including well off the grid, because we could travel there via our Dymaxion Vehicle without need of roads or any other manmade artifacts. Once to our far-flung destination, we could live in one of Bucky’s Dymaxion Houses, which were designed to be autonomous - not needing to be connected to any power, water or other utilities.
This was only one of the many ways Bucky Fuller used to be of service to the most people and to provide us all with more and more freedom. His discipline is even more clearly visible in the following two quotes:
“I was convinced in 1927 that humanity's most fundamental survival problems could never be solved by politics. I set about to see what a penniless, unknown human individual with a dependent wife and newborn child might be able to do effectively on behalf of all humanity.”
Bucky’s work on behalf of all humankind continues to positively affect most of the crew of the planet he named Spaceship Earth as many of us continue attempting to manifest his vision of “a world that works for everyone.” We have the resources to do just that, but we can only succeed if we all stop trying to change other people and simply do our best to serve as many of others as possible.
May the genuine freedom that Bucky advocated become a reality for all sentient beings.
