Each month the bucket list club from Delaware Highlands Assisted Living fulfills one of the seniors bucket list wishes. The idea was derived from the film, 'The Bucket List.'Past bucket list adventures have included making one senior a millionaire for the day which of course required the use of a limo (Trinity Limousine Company) and a 5 star dinner at McDonald’s with all the trimmings including t-shirts and gifts for the “Millionaire”.

This month the bucket list club celebrated on March 12, 2014, when Deanna Shaw’s (a resident of Delaware Highlands Assisted Living) bucket list request to visit Australia, home of crocks, kangaroos and wallaby just to name a few Aussie icons was granted. The A-team (Activities Staff) at DHAL put their heads together to figure out exactly how they would be able to grant the bucket list wish of visiting Australia.

And here’s how they did it. The host/mc for the trip was played, with his best Steve Irwin impression, by Kansas City Celebrity Magician and Ventriloquist T.A. Hamilton. T.A. kept his eyes toward the horizon as he scouted out for wild dingo and boxing kangaroos, we headed for a great dinner, at the Outback Steakhouse located in Zona Rosa shopping center. After dinner the great adventurers were off again to the world famous, even if make-believe, “Sidney Opera House” aka the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.

After a fine meal and great entertainment, they were swept back to reality aboard their 50 passenger magic carpet (donated by Kincaid Coach Services), and returned safely to the welcome of their own apartments inside cozy Delaware Highlands Assisted Living.
