The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today announced the waiving of wide receiver Carlton Mitchell, defensive end Ernest Owusu, quarterback Adam Weber and defensive end Markus White, and the release of wide receiver Derek Hagan, fullback Spencer Larsen and safety Troy Nolan.
The team also announced they have placed cornerback Anthony Gaitor, who tore his ACL, and running back Michael Smith, who suffered a torn ligament in his foot, on injured reserve and signed tight end Mike Shanahan.
Shanahan comes to Tampa Bay after having spent training camp with the New York Jets. A North Huntingdon, Pa. native, Shanahan played collegiately at the University of Pittsburgh. He entered the NFL this season as a college free agent.
The Buccaneers are required to trim their roster down to 75 players by Tuesday, 4:00 p.m. ET.
Meanwhile, cornerback Darrelle Revis, who has yet to play in any preseason games for the Buccaneers, won't play in the team's final preseason game against the Washington Redskins, but will make his debut against the New York Jets in the regular season opener on Sep. 8, according to a team source.
And the team also is hopeful that guard Carl Nicks, who is still recovering from a toe injury and an MRSA infection, can also play in the Buccaneers' regular season opener, a source said.
