Bubble tea, a tea based drink that emerged from Taiwan in the stellar ‘80s decade, has taken a long time to go mainstream in Atlanta. The teas usually are either fruity or milk based and often containing tapioca pearls or jellies. It’s been popular worldwide and gained trendy status rankings in large cosmopolitan cities, but has only slowly leaked onto the scene in Atlanta. That’s not to say it’s non-existent here. We do have a specialty store or two in the area as well as the obligatory related food truck.
This weekend may have taken Atlanta’s bubble tea experience to the next level with the soft opening of Honey Bubble. Located in the Poncey area which is experiencing a recent influx of attention due to the restoration of the old Sears location. The building had had fallen into a sad state of decline and is currently being rehabbed into the promising Ponce City Market. Another promising sign of growth is the recent purchase of the Clermont Hotel, which is located just across the street from Honey Bubble.
Honey Bubble has released a sample menu that touches on it’s offerings of bubble teas, as well as a solid offering of clear teas. Currently missing from the menu is rumored dessert offerings. The décor is clean and timeless with a city chic-ness to it. First looks and reviews of the restaurant are positive, stay tuned to see if Honey Bubble is able to become a hometown favorite.
